KNOWING THAT YOU STILL MATTER TO SOMEONE,
EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE
AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY TO TURN TO ANYMORE:
That’s what Little Brothers does for lonely elders, every single day.
Imagine yourself much older than you are today. You have physical ailments, mental decline and mobility issues to grapple with. Your family members have predeceased you, live far away or are estranged. You are living on the poverty line. You feel more and more alone, like nobody is there for you.
THAT’S WHAT SOCIAL ISOLATION FEELS LIKE.
AND IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE
Fortunately, for 55 years, Little Brothers has been reaching out to the elderly (aged 75 or over) to deliver caring, compassion and companionship throughout their remaining years.
PUTTING AN END TO SOCIAL ISOLATION AMONG SENIORS 75 AND OLDER
Many seniors 75 and older are struggling with age-related decline, which makes them more vulnerable and at risk of social isolation.
As the population in Quebec ages, their needs are becoming more acute – which is why it is so important to give to Little Brothers and become a member of our extended family.
According to a recent study published by a prominent U.S. university, social isolation is as dangerous to health as obesity, smoking and drinking. Conversely, human contact has been proven to have measurable and lasting benefits on individual well-being.
At Little Brothers, we are firm believers that every person’s life has meaning, no matter what their physical or mental condition, and that every significant relationship they form, at any age, does wonders for their morale and overall wellness.
Together, our 1,700 dedicated volunteers and generous donors have created an extended intergenerational family for and with our Elder Friends. We provide them with a wide range of programs that have a concrete impact on the lives of solitary seniors across Quebec.
“Little Brothers is my second family. When I’m with them, I feel like I belong.”
— Mrs. Cafatsakis, one of our Elder Friends, on Rouge FM radio
Through our programs, we provide comfort and consideration to socially isolated seniors – and make them feel like they’re a part of our family. Our approach is multifaceted and flexible to meet individual needs, all with a very warm and profoundly human touch.

A FOREVER FAMILY TO EASE THE BURDEN OF SOCIAL ISOLATION
Our Elder Friends are welcomed into the Little Brothers family with tenderness and respect. They take consolation from the fact that they will have a source of unconditional caring and support for the rest of their lives.
By reaching out to socially isolated seniors, we are giving them what they need the most:
- The reassurance that they matter to someone else
- A permanent connection at a time in their life when loss and bereavement are commonplace
- Affection, moral support and comfort
- Dignity and respect
- The right to dream
- The certainty that they are no longer alone.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE IN OUR EXTENDED FAMILY
We are extremely grateful to all of our volunteers donors and partners who support us in our mission. Without them, there would be no Little Brothers.
A special word of acknowledgement goes out to our Elder Friends, who are the heart and soul of our organization and who give us so much.
