Team Coordinator – Little Brothers – West Island Chapter

Little Brothers’ mission is to welcome and provide support to lonely elders by creating a caring, committed extended family around them, dedicated to alleviating their isolation and being by their side throughout their remaining years. The only organization of its kind in Quebec, Little Brothers has been an active advocate for seniors for 55 years. In 2017–2018, with the help of more than 2,000 dedicated volunteers, Little Brothers reached out to 1,450 Elder Friends.

Under the supervision of the regional administration of the Laval, Lanaudière, Laurentides and West Island chapters, the Team Coordinator will be in charge of planning, organizing and monitoring the activities carried out by the volunteers assigned to the designated area. He or she will manage and coordinate recruiting efforts for new volunteers and Elder Friends (socially isolated seniors 75 and older) and provide support to both groups. He or she will hold events, seek out sources of funding and establish and maintain lasting relationships with various partners. He or she will also help fulfill the organization’s mission at the local level.


Management and coordination

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and follow-up of an organization plan for the West Island based on Little Brothers’ overall priorities
  • Work with the coordination committee to develop and implement strategies for identifying socially isolated seniors and recruiting and retaining volunteers
  • Assist in planning and executing activities for Elder Friends as well as fundraising events
  • Determine training needs for the team of volunteers and develop an appropriate training plan
  • Administer and coordinate the efforts of committees and subcommittees and ensure everything runs smoothly
  • Plan committees’ activities over the short and medium term based on team and organizational objectives
  • Ensure the dissemination of information and the application of organizational policies and guidelines
  • Draft reports and other documents as needed; maintain and archive the team’s records
  • Organize and track various activities and fundraisers 

Development and visibility

  • Establish contacts and liaise with various organizations in the surrounding community
  • Represent the team in dealings with partners
  • Help raise awareness of Little Brothers’ work and rally stakeholders around the organization’s mission
  • Promote the organization and its mission at the local level

Administration and team supervision

  • Coordinate, support and supervise the efforts of the volunteers in the West Island team
  • Ensure the team operates smoothly and fulfills its mandate in line with the mission, using the prescribed methods and procedures
  • Contribute to implementing the organization plan and complying with the budget allotted to the team
  • Submit the required documentation to head office within the established timeframes
  • Apply policies and guidelines related to the designated area of activity


  • College diploma (DCS) in a field related to social work, community service or another relevant discipline
  • Three or more years of experience with a community or philanthropic organization
  • Experience in volunteer management and coordination
  • Familiarity with the living conditions and needs of the elderly, volunteer efforts aimed at vulnerable seniors and the targeted community, all assets
  • In-depth knowledge of the non-profit sector and culture
  • Strategic, engagement-oriented mindset and ability to inspire stakeholders to pull together
  • Leadership acumen
  • Capacity to manage and motivate a team of volunteers
  • Solid sense of judgment
  • Ability to work within a team made up of a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Resourceful self-starter with a keen sense of initiative
  • Strong organizational, planning and multitasking skills
  • Approachable, empathetic and a good listener
  • Effective communication, public speaking and writing skills
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends during major holidays and other events)
  • Excellent command of written and spoken French and English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Internet applications
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a car required


  • Temporary position, duration of approximately one year (maternity leave replacement)
  • Full-time schedule (35 hours a week)
  • Based in the West Island (Pointe-Claire)
  • Competitive salary commensurate with education and experience
